15' Lapstrake Canoe

This lovely 13' Lapstrake Canoe was built by Kim Hodges.

He wrote to say: "I just wanted to send a photo of the finished 13 I've been building for 2 years. It's mahogany plywood with walnut gunnels and breasthooks with maple spacers and spreaders. One of my favorite parts is the spreaders; I didn't want to bend hardwood so these are milled from rocking chair runners.
This isn't a boat that's gonna' sit, I'm going to use her.
"

Not only did he do a masterful job on the canoe, look closely at the cradle fashioned out of PVC pipe with fuzzy roller sleeves for cushioning.

We're continually impressed with the ingenuity of those who build their own boats from our plans. It just goes to prove once again that you don't have to be a professional to build your own boat.

And here's another good looking boat built by her owner...

Duck Trap Wherry "William & Anthony"

This graceful Duck Trap Wherry, William & Anthony was built by Richard Honan.
(That's him at the oars.) Lovely job.
He writes, "Had a great time at the Hull Snow Row this year. Well over a hundred boats. Weather was perfect, high forties, no ice floes, no thirty five knot winds
. . . . . . it was a walk in the park!

A sign painter by trade, Richard has proved once again that you don't have to be a professional boatbuilder to build our boats. Is skill required? Of course, it is, and that can be acquired. We have received letters and emails for years attesting to the fact that their builders had no idea they were capable of such work until they tried it. We can furnish the plans and information; you furnish the determination.

About Us...

We've been in business here in Lincolnville Beach, Maine, since 1970.

On the map you'll find us on the shore of Penobscot Bay
about midway between Portland and Mt. Desert Island
...and in case you wondered, our company name derives from
the original name for this town.
Today, Duck Trap Village is situated within the
Town of Lincolnville.

We're primarily boatbuilders, but these days devote most of our time
to helping others learn how to build their own boats.
It's not an exaggeration to say that our plans come with free email and phone support.
If you want to contact us, you'll find an email link
as well as our address, phone, and fax numbers
on nearly every page of this site.
