It doesn't get more traditional than this... This
is the builder's model for Esmeralda, Wonder where the Trap Skiff went? Never fear, she didn't go far. |

This lovely 13' Lapstrake Canoe was built by Kim Hodges. He wrote to say: "I just wanted to send a photo of the finished 13 I've been building for 2 years.
It's mahogany plywood with walnut gunnels and breasthooks with maple spacers and spreaders. One of my favorite parts is the spreaders; I didn't want to bend hardwood so these are milled from rocking chair runners. Not only did he do a masterful job on the canoe, look closely at the cradle fashioned out of PVC pipe with fuzzy roller sleeves for cushioning. We're continually impressed with the ingenuity of those who build their own boats from our plans. It just goes to prove once again that you don't have to be a professional to build your own boat. And here's another good looking boat built by her owner...
This graceful Duck Trap Wherry, William & Anthony was built by Richard Honan. A sign painter by trade, Richard has proved once again that you don't have to be a professional boatbuilder to build our boats. Is skill required? Of course, it is, and that can be acquired. We have received letters and emails for years attesting to the fact that their builders had no idea they were capable of such work until they tried it. We can furnish the plans and information; you furnish the determination. |
